Wellington Point artist and director of Inart studio gallery, at Cleveland Carol Roche will exhibit for the first time at Texas Contemporary, Houston from October 4 to 7.
Ms Roche is no stranger to American exhibitions, having exhibited in New York for the past seven years. This includes exhibiting with prestige interior designer Arlene Angard at 15 East 71st Street and Madison Avenue for the past two years and a solo show at the Julian Chichester showrooms in the Design Centre at Lexington Avenue.
Ms Roche’s work will also be at the Affordable Art fair in Chelsea 2019. This art fair has become one of New York’s anticipated events attracting more than 70 galleries from around the world.
“I’ve received a really good reception for my art overseas. There is such a small market here, whereas there are 20 million people in New York. I go there too to represent myself or my gallery and I sometimes bring work of other artists too,” she said.
“It’s time for Australian artists to show what they’ve got overseas. There is a lot of interest in Australia, especially in New York. By going there, I feel like I have gone straight to the source,” she said.
Born in New South Wales, Ms Roche held her first solo painting exhibition in Ireland where she studied and worked until returning to Brisbane in 1980. Her work remains as part of the Bloomfield Street streetscape, created in 1994.
The streetscape is one of many public art commissions for the public, private and corporate sectors. She has also continued her strong painting practice and has exhibited in countless solo and mixed exhibitions in Australia and overseas. Most recently, she joined four other artists at the Gaffa Gallery, Sydney, based on an art trip to Morrocco.
“That’s what inspires me – landscapes and the outback – our natural environment,” she said.
“I work on a lot of public work, but I love to do my own work. Then it’s my ideas, my vision and my work to keep or to sell,” she said.
