LABOR’S candidate for Bowman Tom Baster has called for a federal anti-corruption watchdog to investigate allegations of serious corruption.
Mr Baster said a national integrity commission would protect the integrity of Parliament and public institutions.
He renewed calls for a commission made by Labor in January.
“It is time that we restored Australian’s faith in our federal Parliament,” Mr Baster said.
“The first step to doing that is by having a national integrity commission to hold politicians and the public sector accountable.”
Opposition leader Bill Shorten announced in January that Labor would establish a national integrity commission, within its first year of government, should it win the next election.
Mr Baster, a retired general practitioner, from Victoria Point was announced last month as Labor’s candidate to take on long-time federal MP Andrew Laming from the LNP.
