It is understood Tourism Department staff were being briefed on Tuesday on the 23 initiatives that make up the economic transition strategy.

The projects focus on tourism, education and training, and business development.

Opposition leader Deb Frecklington said the Labor government was bungling the transition strategy and leaving the North Stradbroke Island economy in tatters.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk took the cold-hearted and callous decision to destroy 300 jobs on Straddie and now she is betraying that community yet again,” Ms Frecklington said.

“The transition strategy is a disgrace.

Oodgeroo MP Mark Robinson said the premier and ministers were trying to pass the buck.

“A whole community is now paying the price for the Palaszczuk government’s incompetence,” Mr Robinson said.

Mr Dick said his department had reviewed project responsibility to determine which government agencies were best placed to lead the implementation of projects related to the Minjerribah Economic Transition Strategy.

“We want the ETS to be a success, and that’s why we have now allocated associated projects to the portfolios where the skills and capability sit best to drive these important projects forward,” Mr Dick said.

“As the majority of the 23 ETS initiatives relate to tourism, the Minister for Tourism Industry Development is best placed to lead these projects, and will now be responsible for leading the ETS.”

Mr Dick said the approach had been agreed to by all ministers involved in managing Stradbroke, including Ms Jones, Skills Development Minister Shannon Fentiman, Natural Resources Minister Anthony Lynham and himself.
