MORE crafty people are needed to replenish supplies of trauma teddies for Redlands paramedics.
Redland Bay Local Ambulance Committee secretary Jan Sommerville said the crocheted animals could take about a week to make, with patterns and help available.
The call-out was made by the committee earlier this year after members noticed the station’s teddy cupboard was bare.
The soft animals are given out to distressed children and dementia patients to help them keep calm and stop the grizzles on trips to hospital.
“Our ambulances have had bears in them for children for many years but going through the cupboard a couple of months ago we found it was empty," Ms Sommerville said.
About 80 teddies had since been made for stations at Cleveland, Capalaba and Redland Bay.
Redland Bay station officer-in-charge Andrew Morris said the toys worked.
“It gives us an alternative other than just using pharmaceuticals to calm them (patients) down,” he said.
“Just giving them something familiar to hold onto has a calming affect."
