People with a love of theatre got together for Theatre Jam, staged by Mates Theatre Genesis at the Birkdale Hall on September 8.
Co organisers Suze Harper of Alexandra Hills and Margaret Laurence of Cleveland said the event was designed to offer a relaxed atmosphere to present a love of stage.
“There were no judges and no prizes. This was just a fun, relaxed atmosphere for experienced performers to indulge their love of the stage and newcomers to unlock that potential talent in a safe, supportive environment,” Ms Harper said.
The format of Theatre Jam brought back memories of a time when they used to regularly enjoy amateur productions.
“Performers commented that the format of Theatre Jam was an enjoyable return to the roots of Mates Theatre Society.”
The group’s next production is Drinking Habits, being staged from October 12 to 27.
This comedy revolves around the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing who have been secretly making wine in a bid keep their convent's doors open. Two reporters and former fiancees are hot on their trail and go undercover to crack the story.
Wine and secrets are spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent and reconnect with lost loves. Tickets are $25/$20/$10 and can be booked on matestg.org.au
