GUIDED multi-day sea kayaking expeditions that take in Redland’s islands have been launched by a local business.
Redlands Kayak Tours will take paddlers from the mainland, navigating around parts of Peel, Stradbroke, Coochiemudlo, Russell, Karragarra, Lamb and Moreton islands.
Owners Tony and Katrina Beutel said the first expedition took in Peel Island during a two-day-one-night adventure.
The group left from Victoria Point and visited Pat’s Park at Macleay Island before setting up camp on Peel Island.
“We’ve got one of the top 10 sea kayaking locations in Australia on our doorstep and we know there are many people keen on eco-tourism experiences and who want to challenge themselves through sea kayaking so we felt this was a fantastic tourism opportunity,” Mrs Beutel said.
She said sea kayaking was the ultimate experience for kayaking enthusiasts as it offered a physical challenge and the chance to see flora, fauna and natural sights only navigable by a marine craft.
“We’ve got more than 1000 dugongs in the bay, dolphins and turtles, as well as beautiful mangrove eco-systems and unique Aboriginal stories around the islands – there’s so much more for people to see and experience.”
“The expeditions cater for those who enjoy camping and the outdoor lifestyle,” Mrs Beutel said. “All homecooked meals and snacks are provided as well as a glass of wine at sunset.”
The business also offers sea kayak training, with accredited guides, for people interested in going on an expedition.
Tours are scheduled for October 13 and 14, and November 10 and 11. Cost is $375 until the end of this month.
