AUSTRALIAN author Tricia Stringer will speak about her book Table for Eight at a literary lunch at Cleveland next month.
Ms Stringer’s new novel contains her trademark warmth, wit and gentle humour as it celebrates friendships old and new.
It is the story of clever, charming dressmaker Ketty Clift who embarks on a final cruise from Sydney before planning to make serious changes in her life.
Ketty’s mission is to transform the lives of those who join her at her dining table ever evening.
Not only can Ketty turn Cinderellas into princesses with her legendary style–eye, but she has a gift for bringing people together.
However, as the ship sails further away from Sydney towards the Pacific Islands, it becomes clear that her fellow travellers – a troubled family, a grieving widower and an angry divorcee determined to wreak revenge on her ex – are going to be harder work than usual.
Ketty tries to deal with her own problems, including the unexpected arrival on board of her long-lost love, Leo – the man who broke her heart – and troubling news from home, as she begins to realise this might be the one cruise that defeats her.
Stringer’s books include rural romances A Chance of Stormy Weather and Come Rain or Shine and historical sagas Dust on the Horizon and Jewel in the North, set in the 19th century Flinders Ranges.
Stringer grew up on a farm in country South Australia and has spent most of her life in rural communities.
She lives in the Copper Coast region and often explores Australia's diverse communities and landscapes.
The lunch is at the Grand View Hotel on Monday, October 15 at noon.
The cost is $45, or $40 for Grand View members, which includes a two-course meal.
