THEY might not be able to see through bricks, bend steel or fly, but a group of Redlands businesses have proven their superhero salt by rallying to save lives.
The team, led by mortgage brokers Smartline Cleveland, raised more than $6000 for The Kids’ Cancer Project last Friday at Cleveland Bowls Club to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
The charity, set up by former bus driver Col Reynolds in 1993, has injected more than $25 million into cancer research thanks to support from generous individuals and businesses.

Current projects are focused on therapy development, testing and genetic research.
Smartline Cleveland owner Karen Le Comte said she began fundraising for The Kids’ Cancer Project eight years ago after a friend’s young son, Oscar, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.
The nerve cell cancer is the most common solid tumour cancer in children, affecting about 40 babies and kids every year in Australia.
Oscar survives, with more than $120,000 since raised by the Cleveland Smartline team to help others like him.
“You never know who will be affected by cancer,” Ms Le Comte said.
“The reason why we keep fundraising is because they haven’t found a cure yet.”
Event organiser Erin Le Comte thanked supporting Redlands businesses and clients for their continued generosity.
She said funds had previously been raised through Christmas in July events but was delighted at the success of this year’s barefoot bowls day.
Money was raised for The Kids’ Cancer Project through ticket and raffle sales and a silent auction of donated goods.
“There’s a lot of people and businesses who are foundation supporters,” Ms Le Comte said.
Special thanks was extended to REA Taylah'd Homes and REA Solar, Redlands Realty, Subzero Projects, Antech Constructions, Madison Homes, Stephanies Vintage Spa Cleveland, Integra Water Treatment Services, D J Grewar & Co Accountants, Gifts to the Door and the Grand View Hotel.
