APPLICATIONS are open for grants to host an event during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May next year.
Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Minister Di Farmer said grants of up to $5000 were available for community groups in Queensland.
“Every May Queenslanders say ‘not now, not ever’ to violence in our communities as they raise awareness of domestic and family violence across Queensland,” Ms Farmer said.
“In 2019 the Palaszczuk government has $150,000 in one-off funding available to assist organisations and community groups interested in hosting an event to raise awareness of domestic and family violence.”
Redlands MP Kim Richards said everyone could contribute to ending domestic and family violence and spreading the message of zero tolerance.
“Domestic violence is a scourge on our society, and I’m proud to be part of a government that is tackling it head on,” Ms Richards said.
“Violence impacts far too many lives and too many people have been lost to it.
“That’s why we need everyone to play their part.
“Hosting events in every corner of the state means all Queenslanders have an opportunity to speak up, get involved and raise awareness.”

Ms Richards said that for this year’s event funds were distributed to 35 community organisations to hold 43 awareness raising events, projects and activities.
“Each of these events sent a clear message that violence of this type is not tolerated and that by working together, people can make a real difference,” Ms Richards said.
“We want to send an even stronger message in 2019.
“We also know that domestic and family violence has a devastating impact on too many of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and funding will be earmarked for events that raise awareness of domestic and family violence in Indigenous communities.”
