DRIVERS speeding through traffic lights across seven ‘high risk’ Queensland intersections may want to look up and smile, with their reckless behaviour soon to be caught on camera.
The red light speed cameras will be installed from today at locations including Mackenzie’s Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road intersection with the Gateway Motorway.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating said the cameras would help Queensland Police and the Transport Department enforce road speed limits and traffic safety rules.
“All motorists have a responsibility to drive safely to ensure all Queenslanders get to their destinations safely,” he said.
“These cameras will assist in reducing travel speeds at high-risk intersections by operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Other locations set to receive the red light speed cameras include Camira’s Old Logan Road/Alice Street intersection and the Logan River Road/Castile Crescent intersection at Edens Landing.
Commissioner Keating said the sites were selected by the Queensland Police Service and Main Roads Department, based on the number and severity of speed and red-light-related road crashes at the locations.
“The Queensland Government is committed to road safety and the reduction of road trauma on our communities,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.
“By working together, we will continue to create safer roads for Queenslanders.”
