AN IDEA pitched by Cleveland Thornlands Cricket Club years ago for replacement cricket nets at Cleveland’s Henry Ziegenfusz Park has finally been achieved.
Club treasurer Belinda Cassell said the five nets, built by Gabba Sporting Products, would be officially opened on Saturday, October 6.
Everyone was invited to attend the 10.45am ceremony, which would be followed by a sausage sizzle.

Ms Cassell said the club’s $230,000 nets and lighting project replaced an older three-pitch nets set up at the park.
The older nets did not meet cricket regulations, with government grants and club money used for the replacement build.
Ms Cassell said the club was awarded a $35,000 Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant about two years ago for lighting, installed by Sports Lighting Solutions.
This was before $130,900 was awarded through the Get Playing Places and Spaces grant.
The club covered the remainder of costs, with Redlands businesses offering good deals to help the club get the project finished, Ms Cassell said.
Ms Cassell said MK Aussiecrete installed pathways around the nets and Cleveland Signs also helped.
“We’ve wanted these nets for years and this has been a long time coming,” she said.
