A FORMER Mississippi man wants the game he loved as a child – Cornhole – to be adopted by Redlanders as their backyard game of choice.
Wayne Striplin, founder of Cornhole League of Australia, is launching the quirky bean bag sport at Victoria Point’s Thompson’s Beach on Saturday, October 13.
He has invited everyone to visit to learn how to play, with demonstrations on from 9am and a Cornhole tournament on from 10am to 2pm for singles and doubles.
Tournament entry is $10 for singles and $20 for doubles, which includes a sausage sizzle feed and bottle of water.

The game is played with corn kernel-filled sacks, which are thrown at slanted boards from a distance.
The player earns one point for every sack that hits the board, with three points awarded for bags thrown into a hole in the board.
The first to earn 21 points, wins.
Mr Striplin said not many Australians knew about the sport, which was a popular past time in the United States.
He said the game could be played for fun, preferably with drinks, but was also a professional sport part of the ESPN Pro League.
“It is so huge in America,” he said.
“You can get a scholarship to go to university because you’re a good Cornhole player.
“My aim is for the Redlands to be the home of Cornhole.”
