A 61-YEAR-OLD man has been punched in the face and kicked in the ribs and chest at the Wellington Point boat ramp.
A police spokesperson said the assault occurred about 6.30am.
Preliminary information suggested a man approached the victim who was standing on the ramp and began to yell abuse before pushing him over.
“The 61-year-old man stumbled backwards, hitting the passenger door of his car,” the spokesperson said.
“The man then again approached the victim and punched him in the face, causing him to fall over, before kicking him in the ribs and chest as he lay on the ground.”
Police said the man rode away from the scene on a bicycle.
The 61-year-old victim sustained cuts and bruising from the incident.
Police have released pictures of a man who may be able to help with the investigation into the assault.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, around 173 centimetres tall with a solid build.
He was wearing black, red and white sporting attire with a white bicycle helmet.
The man is wearing BMC branded clothing, from a Swiss manufacturer that sells bikes around the world including Australia.
