POLICE are doing regular patrols of Toondah Harbour after a spate of wheel thefts.
Cleveland police said three vehicles had been targeted in the past two weeks, with property crime at the site a continuing problem.
Suspects have not yet been identified due to a lack of CCTV.
North Stradbroke Island man Kiren Jones said his car, which he used for mainland travel, had been targeted three times in as many months.
He said the latest incident had left him fuming.
Two wheels were removed from his grey sedan sometime last weekend, leaving the vehicle tilted to one side.
The car had been parked in an area maintained by Redland City Council off Middle Street, near Gold Cats water taxi.
Mr Jones said he blamed the area’s lack of CCTV and lighting, saying something needed to be done to make the car park more secure.
He also was concerned about the safety of people walking to their cars at night, saying he believed the area could be unsafe.
“How many vehicles have to be damaged, stolen and wrecked before council helps this known hot spot be protected?” he said.
Another car at the park was found by Redland City Bulletin with all four wheels missing on Thursday.
Sharon Groom, whose family operates Gold Cats water taxi, said she believed Toondah Harbour experienced similar problems to those at Weinam Creek.
Cars could be parked for days or weeks at a time by islanders and holiday-makers, meaning damage to vehicles and thefts were often not reported to police until much later after the event.
A lack of CCTV meant police could find it hard to narrow offence time frames and identify suspects.
Cr Peter Mitchell said he had contacted council officers to see if anything could be done to boost security at Toondah Harbour.
“I have absolutely noted the recent activity reported by residents,” he said.
“I have raised their concerns with council officers to check the level of security.”
Council has been approached for a response.
A Cleveland police spokesperson urged people to park their cars in areas visible from the road and to keep them locked and to remove any valuables.
