THE commemorative troop train designed by the Redlands RSL Sub-Branch has been unveiled at Roma Street station.
The train will be on the tracks in the lead up to the Centenary of Armistice on November 11.
The design features a distinctive lone soldier and red poppy, symbolising the lives lost on the Western Front during World War I.
Redlands RSL Sub Branch president Alan Harcourt said the train was a tribute to all servicemen and women – past and present.
“More than 400,000 Australian soldiers fought in World War I and more than 60,000 were killed in battlefields across Western Europe,” Mr Harcourt said.
“We wanted to create a reminder of the sacrifices made by our service personnel and their families.
“We invite all Queensland veterans and their families to join troops from the Gallipoli Barracks on November 11 and travel on the train to Cleveland for Remembrance Day services.”
RSL Queensland president Tony Ferris said it was fitting to launch the 2018 Poppy Appeal a month before the Centenary of Armistice.
“This milestone occasion reminds us of our great fortune to live in a peaceful, prosperous nation,” Mr Ferris said.
“It also reminds us of our debt to those who put their lives on hold and went to war – not knowing when or if they would make it home.
“Nearly 100 years after the bells of peace rang out to mark the end of the First World War, RSL Queensland continues to provide thousands of veterans and their families with support.

“From health services and accommodation to employment programs and even just dealing with red tape so they can access a pension, the RSL’s programs are vital to make sure our veterans are given the care and support many need when they leave Defence to start their civilian life.”
Mr Ferris said RSL services and programs were available to all Queensland veterans, not just RSL members.
“We know from our recent research that one in every five Queenslanders has a link to Defence, with more than 150,000 current and ex-serving personnel living in towns and cities across the state,” he said.
To commemorate the Centenary of Armistice, RSL Queensland has produced a limited-edition pin, featuring the dove of peace on a poppy background.
Volunteers will sell poppies and other merchandise across Queensland.
Veterans or members of the public interested in travelling on the troop train on Remembrance Day can register at trooptrain.eventbrite.com.au from October 15.
A limited number of tickets available.
