ONE of Redlands most generous men Dan Holzapfel has unveiled a park named in his honour.
Redland City Council decided in July that the park at Victoria Point would be named after Mr Holzapfel.
Redland City mayor Karen Williams said Mr Holzapfel was known across the Redlands for his philanthropic work.
She said having a park named in his honour was the least council could do to recognise his generosity.
“Dan is a giver in every sense of the word, so it is fitting that through this park his name will forever be part of the city he has helped through his generosity,” she said.
“A real humanitarian, his philanthropic spirit and support have helped make a difference not only to the Redlands but elsewhere in the world through his support of the Rotary International program for the eradication of polio.”
Cr Williams said Mr Holzapfel was one of Redlands’ true pioneers and was also known for his modesty and humble nature.
“Few Queenslanders have been able to match the scope of Dan's generosity, yet for much of his life he has been content to work and contribute behind the scenes,” Cr Williams said.

“Dan has done so much for this city, but whenever you thank him he always responds by saying that he hasn't done anything to deserve thanks.
“Those who know how much Dan has given this city know this isn't the case and so I am pleased his efforts have been recognised through the naming of this park.”
Cr Williams thanked Ray McAllister who applied to council for the park to be named in Mr Holzapfel’s honour.
Formerly known as Sandy Drive Park, the ecological corridor is adjacent to Sandy Drive and stretches toward Creekwood Street.
