FREE haircuts, coffee and food have been served up at the Redland Community Centre’s Homeless United open day.
The event brought together service providers who work with people who are homeless in the Redlands.
Centre manager Allison Wicks said it was held for the first time but would be an annual event during Anti-Poverty Week.
The centre has been identified by Redland City Council as the lead agency among service providers in the city.
Ms Wicks said the centre helped to map the services available and provide an integrated and united response.
“This helps our clients and the service providers,” Ms Wicks said.
“Why duplicate services?”
The Homeless United program was started earlier this year.
People who are sleeping rough or couch surfing can get dinner every weekday and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday through the project.
In the first six months about 80 people were giving meals.
The centre is gearing up to provide a Second Chance Family Christmas lunch for people who are homeless, families doing it tough or anyone who is isolated and alone on Christmas Day.

Ms Wicks said Homeless United provided many people with a second chance at having a family.
“We know that a lot of people we work with have burnt a lot of relationships,” Ms Wicks said.
“We provide a second chance family.
“At Christmas people can be very isolated and aware of what they have done to those who were close to them.
Ms Wicks said volunteers were needed to set up for the meal and deliver lunch.
Sponsors were also needed to fund the lunch.
