QUEENSLAND Police Service is collecting tinned and dried foods to help Foodbank feed those in need this Christmas.
The effort is all part of Queensland Police Service’s Foodbank Drive, which begins on November 1 and ends on December 7.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said one in every six people went hungry in Queensland everyday, with one-third of those children.
Canned vegetables, soup and spaghetti, dried pasta and jars of pasta sauce were just some of the items able to be donated to police stations, including at Cleveland, Capalaba and Logan Central.
“QPS Foodbank Drive kicks off in November and we’re calling on all generous Queenslanders to donate and help bring joy to people in need this holiday season,” the spokesperson said.
“We can’t do this without your help, so let’s work together and give those who are doing it tough the chance to have a Merry Christmas.
“Foodbank is the largest food relief organisation in Australia, collecting surplus and donated food to distribute to welfare organisations and community groups that feed the hungry.”
It estimated that more than 12,000 people in Queensland every month seeking food relief cannot be helped, with almost 40 per cent more food needed to help those needy.
