Five-year-old Duke Kwocksun-Campbell from Capalaba has made the brave decision to cut his waist-length hair for charity.
Duke’s hair will be donated to Variety Children's Charity to make a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.
His family has also launched an online fundraising campaign.
Duke's mother, Latisha Kwock Sun, said the family initially aimed to raise enough money to cover the costs of turning his hair into a wig.
“We wanted to raise about $500 so someone wouldn't have to pay to receive the wig,” she said.
They have now raised more than $3500.
“We'll be giving the extra money so that other families who want a wig won't have to pay,” Ms Kwock Sun said.
“The support from the community has been overwhelming.
“We'd like to thank everyone for their support while Duke has been growing his hair, as well as their donations and kind words.”
Duke, who has never before had his hair cut, will have his big chop in front of a school assembly on Monday November 19.
A representative from Variety The Children's Charity will speak at the assembly, and collect Duke's hair.
Ms Kwock Sun said he was excited about the event.
“I showed him a video of a little girl receiving a wig, and her reaction made him very excited,” she said.
“The other day, a mother at school was motivated by Duke to cut her hair and donate it.
“He was amazed; I think he's gaining an understanding of the impact of his decision.”
