REDLANDERS are joining in the Melbourne Cup festivities at clubs and restaurants across the city.
Renae Jackson, who owns Redlands business Urban Outlet, said the biggest trend this racing season was the inclusion of ruffles and flounces to give a soft feminine look.
“You can also expect to see florals, block colours and even maxis stepping out,” Ms Jackson said.
She said boater hats like the one Elle McPherson wore on the weekend’s Derby Day and hems below the knee were also likely this racing season.
Meanwhile Australian Associated Press reports from Flemington that rain and thunderstorms were expected to clear by the time the Melbourne Cup is run.
There had been no morning scratchings from the Cup with all 24 horses scheduled to line up.
Yucatan remains the favourite to give champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien a first win in Australia's most famous race and owner Lloyd Williams his seventh.
