THORNLANDS resident Errol Perry has expanded the Tranquility Park Strawberry Queen ballroom, with the hope of encouraging more people to take up social dancing.
Mr Perry said he had done extensive renovations to the dance hall which he opened in 2010 to recognise the heritage of the Redlands Strawberry Queen contest.
Mr Perry said the time and cost of the 12-month extension process was worthwhile.
“We had a lot of challenges along the way," he said.
“I came up against many people who said it couldn't be done but we went ahead with it and it's been a success.”
Mr Perry hopes to generate interest in dancing from across south-east Queensland.
“Not only will it be catering for Redlands residents but it will be an extended service to the wider community by bringing people in,” he said.
Mr Perry plans to hold a Twilight Strawberry Dinner Dance once a month, inviting dance groups from across Brisbane to take part.
He also wants to bring dance clubs from further afield – like the Scenic Rim and Darling Downs – to attend and stay overnight at Tranquility Park.
Social dancing is also available for interested club members on Tuesday morning.
