NATIONAL not-for-profit organisation Share the Dignity is calling on locals to donate essential hygiene items as part of their Christmas donation drive.
The national donation drop off aims to help thousands of women around the country who struggle to access everyday hygiene essentials, including deodorant, shampoo and soap.
Last year more than 98,000 essential sanitary bags were dropped off at Bunnings stores across the country, with these bags being donated to disadvantaged women.
Nearly 173,000 women sought help from homelessness services as a result of domestic or family violence in 2017, a number that had risen by 21 per cent over the previous four years.
With Share the Dignity hoping to collect 120,000 bags across Australia, founder Rochelle Courtenay said they were depending on community kindness to meet their target.
“Christmas is such a special time, but we tend to forget there’s many people who need our help,” Ms Courtenay said.
“Donating a bag filled with hygienic essentials is a small but extremely impactful gesture that people can take part in.”
This Christmas, Share the Dignity is calling for donations of sanitary items, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and deodorant.
Victoria Point Bunnings will be a donation drop-off point from November 16 to December 2.
