STUDENTS from Redland District Special School raised more than $2800 when they took part in the national Day for Daniel fun run.
Students ran around the school, collecting stamps and stickers and using them to decode a secret message, which spelled out ‘be safe’.
Redland District Special School teacher Rachel Wright said she was impressed by the students’ commitment to the run.
“Our students are so excited about the money they’ve helped raise for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, and they thoroughly enjoyed participating in the School Fun-Run as they cheered each other on, all while learning how to keep themselves and their peers safe,” Ms Wright said.
“Many students wanted to do more laps, staff and students shared their enjoyment of the event and are looking forward to next year's.”
The students raised money through the School Fun-Run website, setting up their own online profiles to promote the cause.
“We raised $2800 which was a fantastic effort,” Ms Wright said.
“There was one student who raised more than $1000 individually. I really appreciated all the effort that parents and carers did to share their child's online profile and I would like to thank their extended family and friends and members of the public who donated to them.”
School Fun-Run program director Brendan Hopp said the organisation took great pride in working alongside the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
More than 10,092 students within Australia took part in a Day for Daniel fun run to increase awareness of child safety in schools.
