THE Redlands will be well-represented in Queensland softball in 2019, with 11 local players earning selection in under 23 men and women’s state squads.
The players were named as members of the squads after their stand-out performances during selection opportunities at the recent open and under 19 State Softball Championships.
James Purcell, Isaac Caloiero-Smith and Keenan Smith were selected in the Under 23 men's team.
They will begin training in early 2019 before the final team is selected to compete at the Australian under 23 men’s championships, which will be held in mid-2019.
Redlands players named in the under 23 women’s squad were Georgia Blair, Rebecca McEachern, Haruka Honjo, Dorinda Stone, Tegan Trindle, Tia Waters, Shania Watson and Tamieka Whitefield.
The final team will then be selected to play for the Joyce Lester Shield at the national under 23 women’s championships in 2019.
Redlands Softball Association president Wayne Molander said the selections reflect the high standard of the game in the Redlands.
“We’ve got some of the best players in the country,” Mr Molander said.
“We have a lot of players representing us at a state and national level.
“Our people get as many opportunities as anybody else does, if not more. I think Redlands is one of the best places to come to play softball in the country.”
