Australia's minister for women has a word of advice to younger ladies: don't dwell on your setbacks for long.
Kelly O'Dwyer imparted the wisdom while delivering the nation's first women's economic security statement in Canberra on Tuesday.
Everyone has setbacks but men generally get over them quicker than women, the minister said.
That could be because they are more reflective, she said.
"On the whole, if something happens for a woman, she will go over it and over it and over it again," Ms O'Dwyer told the National Press Club.
"If something happens for a bloke, it's done and he's moved on from it, probably within the next five minutes.
"So I would say - always be future focused. Certainly, learn from the past, but be focused on what you can achieve."
One of six women in cabinet, Ms O'Dwyer has also urged young women not to leave their futures to others, to back themselves and to call out any bad behaviour they see.
Were she given the chance to offer guidance to her younger self, it would be to try new things, Ms O'Dwyer said.
"To try new things, and don't be afraid to fail, because you always learn something from that experience."
