A WORLD war II veteran has celebrated his 100th birthday with family members.
Born on December 15, 1918, Alfred Evans lived at Mount Gravatt, before leaving home at 17 to work on a dairy farm in Beaudesert.
He enlisted for service in the early 1940s, and was stationed at Mout Isa as part of efforts to protect inland Australia.

After the war was over, Mr Evans was married and moved to Carina, where he built his own house.
Daughter Shirley Casey described Mr Evans as a caring father and grandfather to five children, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
After retirement, he enjoyed making his own furniture and toys for his grandchildren.
He also loved tinkering with cars.
His birthday was celebrated with an afternoon tea at Alexandra Hills with about 100 members of his large family.
Mrs Casey said that while her father was a strict disciplinarian, he always cared deeply for his family.
"He was a very hardworking man and a caring father," she said.
"He was always there to offer help when anyone needed it."
