A REDLAND Bay family is distraught after finding a carpet python in their guinea pig cage – and a missing pet.
Redland’s snake catcher Tony Morrison said the family woke on Thursday to find the snake and one of their two guinea pigs in the outside enclosure.
“The mum got the one guinea pig out but the other was in the snake,” Mr Morrison said.
“The snake had eaten the guinea pig.”
Mr Morrison said the python had slithered into the cage through the wire.
“It is a warning to people who have animals in cages outside,” he said.
“This family had lived there for 10 years and never seen a snake there.”
Mr Morrison said he took the snake out of the cage and released it in bushland near to Redland Bay.
