ON the cusp of another well deserved Redland Business and Retail (BaR) Awards win, IGA Mt Cotton will be next week moving to an even bigger, better premises.
The popular SUPA store first opened four years ago and has since been Redland BaR Awards Supermarket of the Year three times, having won again recently.
And it is also the current National IGA Retailer of the Year. IGA is relocating into a new, larger building.
The store is owned by Tyrone and Leanne Jones of Jones Retail Group.
They have 25 years of involvement in grocery retailing and own other IGA supermarkets in the Redlands.
Jones Retail Group general manager David Kindt said the new store, in the same shopping precinct, will open on Wednesday, December 19 and would replace their current premises, built only three years ago.
He said it was a significant development for the area and would employ a further 80 staff members, doubling their numbers, and comparable to a standard Coles or Woolworths supermarket.
“Our original plan for Mount Cotton took into account that the area would grow rapidly but with the success of our first store the development has been fast-tracked,” he said.
The reason for the move is to meet the demands of a growing community and the team at IGA believe the Redlands area needs more presence from independently owned grocery retailers.
The team of 70 and will grow to more than 130. Jones Retail Group now employs more than 400 employees in the Redlands.
“We have a broad team from casual Juniors through to senior management,” David said. “For this exciting new store we have recruited butchers, bakers, chefs, baristas, fruiterers, cheese and fish mongers!”
David said IGA will be a destination for everything food, with a vast offering of more than 20,000 products.
The team is passionate about local customers and strives to present the best quality product possible.
“We are prepared to go over and above to deliver a first class food shopping experience to our customers.”
IGA gives back to the community wherever possible, employs locals, offers the best service and is competitively priced against it’s competitors.
“We have moved to address current food and sustainability trends within the offer of our store,” said David. “We have introduced more than 2000 health based products to our range.”
IGA sponsors many local events and hosts fundraising barbecues every weekend outside the store.
The new SUPA IGA will be the new benchmark for food retailing in Brisbane.
“We encourage everyone to come try us out – we won’t disappoint.”
