A festive Senior Lifestyle – E-Edition

All aged care residents are valued at Christmas time

AS Christmas fast approaches, Redland residents are urged to spare a thought for seniors in aged care who will be missing family and loved ones.

The staff at Aveo Cleveland find that the festive season is often a sensitive and emotional time for some residents and they take the matter seriously.

That is why the community aged care team are determined to make sure that Christmas Day is just as special for those who are unable to spend it with their family.

The festive cheer will spread throughout Bayside’s retirement communities and Aveo Cleveland Community manager Tracey Lloyd has expressed how important it is to ensure all residents have the opportunity to take part in the festivities.

“The whole community comes together and partakes in the Christmas activities, and often staff, who are unable to spend the day with family, join in,” she said.

Ms Lloyd said the festivities often continue late into the day as the residents are invited to relax and have celebratory drinks by the community pool, ending the perfect Christmas Day for all.

Aveo Cleveland is comprised of both independent and aged care living facilities.

The community holds a variety of social events throughout the year for residents including a busy social calendar of regular happy hour drinks, barbeques, special occasion lunches, movie nights, exercise classes and art and bowls groups.

It also has a community centre, swimming pool, restaurant, bowling green and a hair and beauty salon as well as 24/7 onsite nursing and personal care assistants who provide all levels of assessed care.

However, festive joy isn’t just limited to one day with a variety of Christmas events throughout a fun-filled December.

Based at a separate location, Aveo Cleveland Gardens will kick off the silly season with it’s annual Christmas Party, where entertainer Jim Bibby, spreading Christmas cheer for residents with carols and dancing.

“Our Christmas celebrations will begin on December 21 where residents can invite their family to join in the fun,” she said. “The day is full of festive cheer and we begin the day decorating the community and the Christmas trees, before dressing up in our Christmas best, singing Christmas carols and sitting down to enjoy lunch together.”

Ms Parsonson said it is wonderful that residents will be able to sing carols with Jim Bibby even if their relatives are unable to join in the festive fun at the community.

The celebrations continue up until the big day, with a Christmas Lights Tour organised for residents to enjoy an evening exploring Bayside’s best light decorations, followed by a lunch hosted by the community on Christmas Day.

Aveo Cleveland Gardens is a peaceful community set in luscious gardens and within easy reach of the best the region has to offer.

The welcoming community centre is where residents and their friends come together to socialise and unwind.

“The Aveo Cleveland Gardens community really enjoy coming together for the special day, with residents always looking forward to the Christmas carol singalongs.” Ms Parsonson said.

“It’s certainly a fun and festive time at the community, capturing the spirit of Christmas with delicious food, friendship and good will.”
