The Tigers are back in the winner’s circle after an action packed weekend of short form cricket.
First grade played three T20 games at three different venues, winning two games and losing one.
In the opening game of the weekend, the Tigers defended a below par 154 against Northern Suburbs away from home. Liam Smith and Sam Howse got the innings going with 23 and 25 respectively before James Bazley chimed in with a valuable 70 from 43 deliveries.
The Tigers bowlers, led by Lachlan Honan (4/23) and Jamie Ryan (3/15), sent the Norths’ big guns packing early in the run chase to put them in the box seat. Despite a few middle order cameos, the home side never recovered from the loss of early wickets as they were dismissed for 137 in the 19th over.
The day’s second game did not quite go to plan for the Tigers, with South Brisbane claiming the spoils at Allan Border Field after setting a formidable 204 runs for victory. The Tigers looked on track for most of the run chase thanks in large part to another sparkling innings of 45 from James Bazley.
A 30 ball 56 from Josh Lalor also kept Redlands’ hopes of a second victory for the day alive. But when Bazley departed with the score on 148, the Tigers’ innings quickly fell away and they were dismissed 23 runs short of the target.
Bazley continued his good form in Sunday’s clash with Valley on Peter Burge Oval. The Tigers defended 191 after winning the toss and electing to bat first. James Bazley top scored once again with 70 before Lachlan Honan (3/39) and Charles Mailli (3/12) bowled their side to a 54 run victory. Third grade posted their second win for the season on Peter Burge Oval against Sandgate-Redcliffe. Pearce Anderson was in fine form once again with ball in hand, claiming three wickets as he helped his side restrict the visitors to 196.
Sam Ward did the damage in the Tigers’ run chase with an unbeaten innings of 86. Fourth grade also chalked up an important victory against the same opposition in one of their best all round performances of the season. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Tigers dismissed the home side for just 110. Lincoln Rosiak, Josh Thompson, Sam Geyer and Wayne Todman claimed two wickets apiece.
Craig Holdsworth turned back the clock in the run chase with a vintage innings of 94* to see the Tigers through to another 10-wicket victory. Fifth grade returned to winning ways with victory over Western Suburbs.
The Tigers scored 257 batting first, with Dylan Grey and Michael Moss making 97 and 50 respectively. Matt Short made light work of the Western Suburbs batting on his way to claiming 3/6 and helped the Tigers dismiss the opposition for 133. Sixth grade earned their second win in as many weeks with victory over Sandgate-Redcliffe. In another consummate performance, the Tigers dismissed the home side for just 86.
