Western Sydney coach Markus Babbel believes the Wanderers need to start proving themselves in big games to bring back their dwindling crowds.
The Wanderers are averaging just 7,896 people through their three home games this season - the lowest since their inception in 2012.
One of those matches was a 5,067 attendance in Mudgee, while Saturday's derby against Sydney FC normally lifts their overall figure.
The week two derby at the SCG drew a crowd of 30,588.
Babbel admits their recent derby record - just one win in their past 15 matches against the Sky Blues - may have impacted on their crowds.
"If I see the history, we haven't won a lot of derbies," he said on Thursday.
"We play for many reasons. First for us, to get a result to climb up the table, and also for our supporters.
"They're always there, always supporting us, doesn't matter what's happened, and also for them it would be a great Christmas present."
Babbel also conceded that the Wanderers' record against the top teams is poor.
Of their past 11 victories in the A-League, dating back to late in the 2016/17 season, only one has come against an opponent in the top six at the time.
Having only claimed their second win of the campaign in last week's match against Central Coast, the challenge now is to back it up against their cross-city rivals.
"I wasn't there before so I can't tell you what's happened in the past," Babbel said.
"It's only up to us to bring a performance every week on the pitch that the supporters see the players give everything.
"I can't tell them that we will win every game but we have to try.
"Now we have to do the next step, to win a big game, which we haven't done for many months, years, we haven't won against a big team.
"It's time to go the next step forward. This is what I want to see on Saturday."
