Up to three C-17A Globemaster III aircraft will conduct a formation training flight along the southern Queensland/northern New South Wales coast and return to Ipswich this morning.
The aircraft will fly about 300 feet above the coastline and travel at a speed of about 300 knots before returning to medium flight levels for over land portions of the flight.
The C-17A Globemaster III provides the Air Force with an unprecedented capacity for strategic airlift. It allows Australia to rapidly deploy troops, supplies, combat vehicles, heavy equipment and helicopters anywhere in the world.
Based at RAAF Base Amberley, all eight C-17As are operated by 36SQN, and provide a logistics backbone for Australian Defence Force operations overseas. This has included operations in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.
Air Force appreciates the support it receives from local communities while conducting flying activities within Queensland and New South Wales.
This display is subject to variables including weather, air traffic control and availability; and may be subject to cancellation or delay.
They will be over South and North Stradbroke islands eastern shoreline at 9.42am, weather permitting.
