PARKING NO ANSWER
I CANNOT see that creating more parking spaces at Weinam Creek is the answer to the problem facing the many people who use Southern Moreton Bay Island ferries.
There can never be enough car parking spaces to cater for the ever-increasing number of residents and Redland City Council is showing no consideration for people who live around the Redland Bay terminal.
What an eyesore and how disruptive must the parking situation be? A five level car park to cater for up to 2000 cars surely will not improve that situation.
After seeing how long it took to build the latest “transit lounge” at the ferry terminal, I’m wondering how long it would take to build a five level car park and how disruptive that would be?
Why not consider options to reduce the need for car parks?
One suggestion would be a faster, cheaper barge service. If one route catered for Macleay and Lamb islands only and another route catered for Russell and Karragarra islands only via Krummel Passage and preferably using the southern side of Karra, this would cut travel time and presumably costs.
To cater for those wishing to travel between the islands perhaps we should have a morning and afternoon service that uses the existing route. Working around services is part of island living.
I’m sure there are other options that would reduce the need for thousands of car parks choking the beautiful waterfront.

PROPOSAL NOT MUCH CHOP
I’M VERY disappointed with the Weinam Creek proposal, as it is all about island needs and to hell with the mainland residents.
This land for the car park could have been so much better utilised as a community park for all residents and visitors, but who cares about them? The irony of it all is that it is just another stop-gap measure.
The time has come for the mainlanders to have their own councillor to focus on their needs, separate from the islands.

About Toondah
I READ your story regarding Toondah Harbour and there are a few items that should be included.
The 3600 units will be 10 storeys high, built on fill dumped into Moreton Bay to create an island out from G.J. Walter Park.
This is our internationally protected marine park and I question how any government or council can allow a development to be created by simply filling in this part of Moreton Bay and building what is essentially a new suburb. This area is not within the urban footprint as it is in the water.
ALP policy says there will be no development in marine parks or RAMSAR sites, which are protected area for migratory shorebirds, many of which are endangered.
If it’s a crime to care about Moreton Bay, I plead guilty.

Fairfax, bah humbug
IT APPEARS your newspaper has a hidden agenda to destroy Bowman MP Andrew Laming because the only time articles are published about him it is negative and highly critical of his performance.
There have been numerous articles concerning his frequent use of printing material to get his message out to the people. All MPs are provided a printing allowance and his usage is always within guidelines.
Travel costs are also a favourite of your reporting and again he works within the guidelines but, no, let’s throw mud at him. How about investigating allowances used by all state MPs?
Letters to the editor also attack Mr Laming for all sorts of reasons, some of which have nothing to do with him.
Someone said “if you want to have a letter published ... just attack Andrew Laming”.
It would seem MP Kim Richards is the darling of the Bulletin as for many weeks she has featured weekly with a corresponding photo much of which is not worth reporting. One week she featured in two articles.
I am aware you are of the Fairfax group which is closely aligned with the left but the Redlands deserve a more balanced approach.

Racism at service
AFTER paying my respects and attending the Remembrance Day service at Cleveland, I could not help but think how wonderful the men and women were and how amazing that a Sikh was able to wear his traditional head dress – a turban.
However, a woman asked how dare (the army) allow a “towel head” to march given there had recently been a terrorist attack.
Can we not focus on how brave another is to serve for his country?
I am proud of this man for serving his country and also of the armed forces for allowing him to proudly display his beliefs.

MORE DETAILS, PLEASE
I READ your paper each week. Often when I’ve read an article which I’m interested in, for example a particular business or about the container collection place in Capalaba, the articles often fail to put in the address.
Whoever gets information ready for print should ask people for their contact number and/or address so it can be published so interested people like myself will know how to contact that business.

THANKS FOR THE HONESTY
I WISH to thank the very kind and honest person who handed in my wallet at Victoria Point.
I am so relieved. Thank you so much.
