Angela Schoemaker sings for the joy of singing, as a member of an ensemble in the Here’s to Life’s Sing for Life program.
Ms Schoemaker said she first started performing at age six and remembers standing on a crate to perform The Candy Man.
“These days I don’t need a crate to stand on and sometimes not even a microphone. I sing at every opportunity and just for the sheer joy of it,” she said.
Sing For Life offers performance opportunity for like-minded men and women.
“Not only is singing in a group great fun, it is truly an holistic workout for the body, mind and soul. Singing may seem daunting, but with just a few songs and a ton of encouragement and laughter from the other singers, it builds self-confidence and improves your health and well being,” Ms Schoemaker said.
Sing for Life is for men and women and meets every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm at the Cleveland Memorial Hall. Its repertoire spans vaudeville, musicals, light opera and 60s to 80s pop. The group is willing to take requests and try new songs. The group is not auditioned and bookings can be made with Sue Harvey on 0407 154 993 or 3809 0239.
Early bookings are being taken for a discounted price of $10 for a two-hour class during the first semester.
