Gypsy folk music is set to inspire music lovers as the first in a series of house concerts being staged at Wellington Point at 3pm on January 27.
The concert will feature soprano Rosemarie Arthars, violinist Camille Barry, ‘cellist Danielle Bentley and pianist Leanne Swanson. Repertoire includes Haydn’s popular Gypsy Rondo, the Turina Spanish Piano Trio and the rarely played and extremely challenging Two Irish Airs by French composer Frank Martin.
“It is possibly the most difficult piece I have ever played and it is difficult for every instrument. There is an instrumental intellectuality to it and comes with different time signatures and opposing harmonies and rhythms. We just start at the beginning and hope to finish together. It’s quite a challenge and great fun,” Ms Swanson said.
Ms Swanson said she believed folk music was an appropriate start to the 2019 series as it is the basis of most music.
The next concert will celebrate international women’s day and feature all female composers and musicans on March 8 at 6.30pm. This concert will also support the Centre for Women at Capalaba.
