REDLANDERS are urged to nominate their local sporting heroes in a competition to decide Australia’s community cricket champion.
Cricket Australia eyewear partner Specsavers called for cricket fans to nominate a local legend by visiting communitychampions.com.au and explaining why their local cricket club member or volunteer deserved to be recognised for their hard work, support of the local cricket team and dedication to the sport.
The winning champion and their team would be rewarded with a training experience with cricketing great Ian Healy and members of the Australian cricket team who would visit their local club to test their skills and hand-eye coordination.
Nominations should be submitted before January 27, with the winning champion’s club also receiving complimentary eye tests and glasses for those who required them.
Specsavers cricket ambassador Ian Healy said he was excited to see the Australian local cricketers recognised.
“Each and every player on the Australian cricket team started out playing community cricket and it’s at the thousands of local cricket clubs around Australia where that love of the game began,” Healy said.
Specsavers Victoria Point dispensing partner Kylie Purvis encouraged local cricket fans in Redland to put forward a deserving cricket champion for the experience.
“It would be fantastic if a club in our community was chosen so members can gain invaluable skills and knowledge in a sport they love,” Ms Purvis said.
“Being trained by a professional player who knows the game inside and out is a unique opportunity that the chosen team will be sure to benefit from.”
