Local creative performance company ROCKIT Productions ensures all members feel like they are part of a family.
And with more than 200 students - that’s one big happy family!
ROCKIT is like a second home to its students and regardless of what class or course they participate in, teachers aim to keep that feeling present at all times.
“We have a wonderful community of students, teachers, families, and friends who we call our ROCKIT family, because that’s what ROCKIT is all about for us - creating a family,” said artistic director Shaun Kohlman.
Teachers aim to create a place where students feel safe to be themselves, surrounded by like-minded peers who work hard while having fun in each and every class.
ROCKIT was founded in Cleveland eight years ago by Redlanders Shaun Kohlman, Danielle Walsh and George Canham, looking to establish a creative and artistic training venue in the local area.
“Having grown up in the Redlands, we found that to pursue our love of the arts during our high school years, we needed to travel into Brisbane to receive the training and performance opportunities we were looking for,” Shaun said.
Over that time it has grown from 20 students and staged 34 major productions, with multiple concerts and smaller events along the way.
Shaun, Dani, and George continue to teach and run the company, although it has certainly grown over the years with an extended teaching and administration team and a wonderful support crew making each project possible.

ROCKIT offers musical theatre training (singing, acting, and dance) and onstage performance opportunities.
“From absolute beginners, to those pursuing a career in the arts, we take pride in being a theatre training company for Redlands youth.”
The ROCKIT team believe in helping students be the very best version of themselves, and working as an ensemble to achieve their goals.
The small company works tirelessly to produce the best performances possible and keep up-to-date with teaching and industry trends and standards.
In the past four years, 21 graduates have gone on to full time training in musical theatre - three of which were accepted into the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
And this week ROCKIT Productions was presented the Australia Day Cultural Award for producing “outstanding creative work in Redlands Coast”, following on from business awards presented in recent years.
