Redlands United are set to begin their National Premier League (NPL) 2019 season on Saturday away against Brisbane City.
And while last season did not go the way the team wanted it to, the signings of new coach Cleberson Souza Santos and a totally revamped team lineup has the squad looking up.
The club has made some key new signings in Fernando Perez, Murilo Gomes, goalkeeper Jack Richards and the returning Igor Sao Jose as well as re-signing last season’s leading goal scorer Shuto Kuboyama.
Ahead of the season, Redlands have been preparing for the season with a series of games which has seen the new look side develop structure, team awareness, team play and cohesiveness.
Redlands United senior men’s coach Cleberson Souza Santos has been happy with his side’s development during pre-season despite some of the results.
“I believe we’ve done well during pre-season, we now have everything we need. We have progressed and improved throughout pre-season, we are now beginning the season with very good technical grounding. A lot of people thinks that physical comes first, I don’t believe so. My team understands that tactical is first, technical and then comes physical” Souza Santos commented.
There is high optimism the 2019 season down Cleveland way as the team wants to be able to challenge the competition’s top sides in their 1st season together but also follow on with the Club FFA Cup legacy.
“I feel there is no reason if we can learn from mistakes and areas of weakness from pre-season games and strengthen those areas, there is no reason why we can’t back that up,” Souza Santos said.
Redlands United play their first game this week away at Brisbane City and then the next three games of the NPL season are at home against Brisbane Strikers, Brisbane Roar Youth and Gold Coast Knights.
