YMCA Victoria Point will host a Food Fiesta to raise money for their program for cancer survivors.
The event on Saturday, March 2 will involve face painting, a kids’ zone, food vans and live music, with a fireworks display to end the night.
YMCA Victoria Point assistant manager Gemma Gwilliams said it would be the first time the event had been brought to the Redlands.
However, it had been run successfully at YMCA Jamboree Heights for the past three years.
She added that the event would feature local artists including Skeleton Tree, the Rock Doctors, duo Maddie and Cody, Shanae Hardman and Francesca Brzoskowski.
Money raised at the event will go towards YMCA’s Cancer Survivors program, a 12-week physical activity and support program for cancer survivors.
Ms Gwilliams said the program, offered for free to members and non-members, enabled cancer survivors to reclaim their health and wellbeing.
“Fighting cancer is a scary enough experience (but) recovering shouldn’t have to be,” Ms Gwilliams said.
“The YMCA provides a safe exercise program and environment for cancer survivors to gain and reclaim their health and wellbeing.
“Survivors who have gone through the program describe the support, empathy and understanding gained through being part of a group as priceless.”
She said YMCA Victoria Point aimed to raise $15,000 from the event, which would put 40 people through the program this year.
“At the YMCA, we’re committed to supporting (people) in their fight against cancer,” Ms Gwilliams said.
The Food Fiesta will take place on March 2 from 3pm.
YMCA Victoria Point is at 128 Link Road.
