A FAMILY tradition was continued and a bucket list item ticked off for local golfer Kevin Crowther after he scored a hole in one at Redland Bay golf club.
Mr Crowther, who plays every Tuesday afternoon with his golf group, said he was thrilled to hit the shot, having had it on his golfing bucket list since he started playing with the group six years ago.
“I wanted to score a hole in one and play a round under par, so really I got to cross two things off the list on the same day,” he said.
“(Hitting a hole in one) is extremely rare (but) it’s just luck.
“My grandfather got one, and he couldn’t play for peanuts.”
The lucky shot was an intergenerational achievement, with Mr Crowther’s grandfather, father and nephew also achieving holes in one on the same course.
“We’ve been playing since the late sixties here, (back when) it was a rough old course,” Mr Crowther said.
“It’s a really nice course now.”
To celebrate, he bought the group – which has about 12 members – a beer each.
“It should have been the other way around,” he joked.
The next item on Mr Crowther’s bucket list is the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora.
“It probably would be easier than the hole in one because you’ve just got to outlay some money,” he said.
The golf group is open to new members. They play at the Redland Bay golf club on Tuesday afternoons at 1:30pm.
