ARTISTS Delvene Cockatoo-Collins and Maryann Talia Pau are the guest speakers at this year’s Redlands Centre for Women High Tea.
The event, being held for the 12th time, celebrates International Women’s Day and raises money for the centre.
It will be held at Sheldon Event Centre from 1pm to 5pm on March 9.
Ms Cockatoo-Collins who lives on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) was involved in design work for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games last year.
She worked on Migaloo the white whale that floated across the arena during the opening ceremony of the Games, created art work for costumes worn by people who presented medals and designed commemorative medals that were given to all competitors and officials.
Ms Talia Pau started the One Million Stars to End Violence Campaign, which saw 2.4 million stars woven by individuals and groups around the world.
She partnered with the Queensland government from 2016 to create an installation of stars in the Museum of Brisbane in the lead up to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Ms Talia Pau was recognised as the Redlands Coast Citizen of the Year before Australia Day.
The event will include a fashion parade by local fashion store Urban Outlet and music by Mama Juju and the Jam Tarts and Redlands Rhapsody Choir.
There will be market stalls and raffle prizes, including a three-day cruise for two people, up for grabs.
The event raises money for Redlands Centre for Women which offers empowerment programs, care packages and nurture boxes, and events and activities.
Bookings for the high tea must be made before February 22.
They can be made via redlandscentreforwomen.com/hightea or email bookings@redlandscentreforwomen.com.
Redlands MP Kim Richards encouraged city residents to get involved in Queensland Women’s Week, which has the theme of “Invest in women, Invest in the future”.
“The theme … aims to teach women about the importance of financial literacy so they can have a bright and secure future,” Ms Richards said.
Women Minister Di Farmer recently announced that $150,000 had been awarded to organisations hosting activities during Queensland Women’s Week from March 2 to March 10.
The week is an extension of International Women’s Day on March 8.
Ms Richards said the week was a great time to celebrate the many achievements of women and girls in the region.
“We know that by working together towards gender equality, all Queenslanders can have the same opportunities to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential,” Ms Richards said.
