A MOUNT Cotton man, who is the alleged president of Logan Rebels, is one of nine people arrested by police after a gang-related incident at Loganholme’s Hyperdome Shopping Centre.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said it would be alleged a 27-year-old man, armed with a machete, was shot in the leg during a group altercation at Loganholme’s Leda Drive car park on Monday about 4.30pm.
The spokesperson said it would be alleged a steel grate was also smashed through the window of a silver 2005 Mazda Tribute SUV during the disturbance at the car park.
The spokesperson said the incident had prompted significant investigations by the Logan Criminal Investigation branch, supported by the State Crime Command.
The injured man was located by police at Logan Hospital on Wednesday as he sought treatment for the wound to his leg, the spokesperson said.
He was charged with going armed to cause fear and wilful damage, the latter which related to the removal of a GPS tracking ankle bracelet. He appeared at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday and was remanded to reappear on March 13.
Seven members of the Logan Rebels were also arrested after police conducted search warrants at homes earlier today.
The spokesperson said the members were arrested for alleged offences including acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm while a participant of a criminal organisation and affray.
A 32-year-old Mount Cotton man, who is the alleged president of the Logan Rebels, was also arrested in Darwin for the same alleged offences and for allegedly habitually consorting.
The spokesperson said Queensland Police Service were seeking the 32-year-old’s extradition to Queensland.
Operations Commander of the Organised Crime Gangs Group Detective Superintendent Roger Lowe said the arrests were a culmination of significant police investigations.
“The Queensland Police Service is focused on keeping our community safe and these arrests are a result of extensive police investigations conducted this week,” Detective Superintendent Lowe said.
“Violence involving gangs particularly in public spaces will not be tolerated.
“We know that individuals within this gang are not just motorcycle enthusiasts gathering for a good time, they represent a criminal organisation and as evident in this incident have little regard for public safety.”
The police spokesperson said a white 2010 Toyota Aurion sedan, allegedly linked to the incident, was found burnt out in bushland at Chambers Flat after the car park incident.
The spokesperson said investigators were appealing for anyone who was at the shopping centre and witnessed the events or anyone with information to contact police.
