BOOK: A horsemanship book by Thornlands author Joanne Verikios has been gifted to Ellen DeGeneres.

A book written by Thornlands author Joanne Verikios will grace the bookshelf of television icon Ellen DeGeneres after being included in an Australian hamper for her birthday on January 26.

Entitled Winning Horsemanship. A Judge's Secrets And Tips For Your Success, the book is an appropriate addition to DeGeneres who owns a 26-acre horse ranch north of Los Angeles with her spouse Portia de Rossi.

The ranch is home to Ms De Rossi’s horses and some rescue animals.

Manager of Celebrity and Hollywood Giftin Kelly Smeath said DeGeneres’ love of horses made the book a perfect gift.

Ms Verikios said she wrote her book to fill in the knowledge for people who didn't grow up around horses and horse people.

The book focuses on the bond between humans and horses and has a powerful message about winning in life. It reveals powerful mindset and personal development techniques, often conveyed with humorous anecdotes.

"This am thrilled to bits and I hope Ellen loves her Australia Day birthday present. It seems very relevent to her,"  Ms Verikios said.

Ms Verikios is current collecting interviews with prominent horse people as fodder for a future book. This year she is also working on a novel.
