THE Redlands is a photographic goldmine, according to Point Talburpin resident and photographer Joe Earl.
Mr Earl, who received a commended award in the Australian Photographer 2018 Photographer of the Year competition for his portfolio Over My Lake, said the range of wildlife in the area provided plenty of subjects to choose from.
“I’ve spent many hours walking the lake at Mount Cotton,” Mr Earl said.
“I walk the Redlands every morning before work chasing wildlife.
“I have found the Redlands is extremely diverse in its range of birds, lizards, insects and many other amazing Australian animals.”
The Photographer of the Year competition is the largest amateur photography competition in the southern hemisphere, and received more than 8000 photographs in the 2018 competition.
Mr Earl, whose passion for photography was born around 15 years ago, said he used his camera to escape from his day-to-day worries.
He said the secret to a good photograph was choosing the subject wisely.
“Try find something hidden that not may people see like a little white fluffy bug,” he said.
“When photographing birds, try get the motion shot, just as (they are) taking off or landing.
“Don’t over think it and relax.”
