THREE Redland libraries will close for a week in March for improvements to the checkout and returns systems.
Redland City mayor Karen Williams said the closures would be staggered across the three mainland libraries, so there would be two branches open at all times.
Customers would still have access to all Redland libraries services during this time.
“The 24/7 virtual library and online services will be available as usual, as will be the mobile library,” Cr Williams said.
“There will also be extended loan periods in place over the closure period.”
Cr Williams said the new system would replace borrowing counters and allow people to more easily and quickly borrow books.
“New check-in bookshelves will let customers return books as they enter the library, allowing those books to be immediately available for others to borrow,” she said.
“There will also be more public space for events and activities and staff on hand out on the branch floors to help customers with their needs.
Customers are asked to pick up items on hold before the closure date.
The Cleveland library will be closed from Monday, March 4, re-opening on Monday, March 11.
The Capalaba library will be closed from Monday, March 11, re-opening on Monday, March 18.
The Victoria Point library and customer service centre will be closed from Monday, March 18, re-opening on Monday, March 25.
