A BREAKFAST held by Soroptimist International Bayside will inspire young people to give back to their communities on International Women’s Day.
The event, to be held on Friday, March 8, will start at 6:30 am and is open to members of the public.
Appearing at the event will be guest speaker Sarah Corbett, the Brisbane branch co-ordinator of volunteer-run organisation Rosies Friends on the Street, which provides support to the homeless.
A Soroptimist spokesperson said Ms Corbett would outline her role in coordinating a large number of employees and volunteers and identify the need for young people to have a moral compass and to give back to their communities.
“Sarah’s passion for supporting those who are less fortunate in our community started when she volunteered with Rosies whilst still at school,” the spokesperson said.
“Hopefully, she will inspire the young men and women attending the breakfast to get involved in service activities in their local communities too.”
The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is Balance for Better, which focuses on achieving gender balance in areas including leadership roles and businesses, government, media coverage, wealth and sports.
The theme aims to communicate the message that balance is not a women’s issue but a business issue, and is essential for economies and communities to thrive.
The Soroptimist International Bayside Inc.’s International Women’s Day breakfast will be held on Friday, 8 March from 6:30 am at the Redlands Sporting Club Function Room on Anson Road, Wellington Point.
Students from local schools have also been invited to attend this event.
The spokesperson said the breakfast should conclude between 8:30 am and 9 am to enable attendees to get to work and school.
The cost is $40 or $35 for students and concession.
