LOCAL IGA stores will raise money to take two people off the guide dog wait list during Paws for a Cause during March.
During the campaign, shoppers who donate $2 will receive a collector card, with IGA aiming to raise enough money to fund the training of two guide dogs.
Guide Dogs Queensland CEO Michael Kightley said there were more than 30 people on the wait list for a guide dog.
A Guide Dogs Queensland spokesperson said the cost to breed, raise and train two guide dogs was close to $100,000.
"This covers their two year training journey which is over 3000 hours, including puppy raising and formal guide dog training, and all equipment and veterinary expenses involved," the spokesperson said.
A spokesperson from Birkdale IGA said staff members were expecting a positive response from local shoppers.
"Last year it was a very successful campaign in this area and we think this year will be no different," the spokesperson said.
"We have several visually impaired regular customers and anything we can do to help that community out we will."
Brett Murphy, merchandise manager at Jones Retail Group, which owns several Redlands IGA stores, said local stores hoped to raise $10,000 during the campaign.
The Guide Dogs Queensland spokesperson said getting off the wait list would mean the world to blind or vision-impaired people.
"A guide dog can provide independence, safety, confidence and a sense of companionship unlike any other," the spokesperson said.
"They help with the things we take for granted like being about to leave the house and know how to get our work or our favourite cafe or be able to go shopping to get the ingredients to be able to cook dinner for our families.
"Guide Dogs are trained to help you navigate your daily environment and beyond.
"They help people get around their community safely, be able to get to the shops independently and become more social."
Shoppers can donate to Paws for a Cause during the month of March at all IGA stores across Queensland.
