STARFISH Tri-Athletic powered to a state victory at Raby Bay on Sunday, taking out the top prize in the Queensland Triathlon Series.
The 64-member Alexandra Hills club defeated some of Queensland's largest clubs - some with more than four times their numbers - to win the Charlton Ray trophy.
With 62 clubs registered in 2019, the seven-race series was the largest in the state.
Races were held across south east Queensland between late September and early March, concluding with the Raby Bay triathlon on March 3.
Starfish Tri Athletics head coach Ben Luscombe said clubs' scores were calculated based on participation and performance, which gave larger clubs an advantage.
"As a smaller club we really relied on performance points," Mr Luscombe said.
"(The win) was a really big club effort which just shows the supportive atmosphere we have here.
"We also had 13 first-timers participating in the series (with some) people as old as 69 and as young as seven."
Mr Luscombe said 52 Starfish members competed at the Raby Bay triathlon across all distances and age groups.
He said a series highlight was a clean sweep in the 13 year boys' race, which saw Starfish athletes taking out first, second and third places.
