UNDER a new police initiative, kids will be able to chat with cops while enjoying a sausage sizzle at their local park.
The initiative, lauched to increase police engagement with local young people, was trialled at the Capalaba skate park by officers from Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad.
Over a barbecue, police chatted with children about what was happening in their community and how the police could assist them.
Acting Sergeant Craig Searston said the initiative was an opportunity to engage with the local youth.
"These events are often the first time kids have spoken to a police officer," he said.
"It breaks the ice and we are hoping the kids will enjoy the barbecues also whilst speaking with officers."
He said it was the first of many future outings throughout the Bayside.
