BARGAIN hunters are in for a treat at Cleveland District State High School's annual garage sale on Saturday, March 30.
The sale, to be held at the Cleveland Assembly Hall on Smith Street between 7am and noon on March 30, will raise money for Cleveland District State High School's chaplaincy program.
Chaplain Neale Collier said the school's chaplaincy service helped students, staff and parents facing difficulties in their family, school or personal lives and also worked to support children overseas.
“We have a keen focus on helping students to creatively support kids in other parts of the world that are living in poverty,” Mr Collier said.
“This is just one of the ways we add to the school experience at Cleveland High.”
The school's Local Chaplaincy Committee would aim to raise more than $4000 which would be used to ensure that students had access to a chaplain every day of the week.
Mr Collier said even after contributions from the school's P&C and the federal government, more than $30,000 had to be raised each year in order to provide a comprehensive full-week service to students.
Chaplain Sarah Woodward said the committee was asking for help from the community to help support students.
"A very real way people can show they care about young people who are facing tough times is by helping us to have a successful fundraiser," Ms Woodward said.
She said the Cleveland chaplaincy relied heavily on donors and supporters.
Mr Collier said the school was calling for donations, volunteers and baked goods.
Material goods in good condition would be accepted, including books, toys, games, furniture, bric-a-brac, home furnishings, electrical goods, clothes, sports equipment and plants.
Slices or whole baked items were also required for the bake sale, along with an ingredient list.
Volunteers were required for shifts of two to four hours between 11am and 8pm on Friday, March 29 and 6.30am and 3pm on Saturday, March 30.
Several utes and drivers were also needed after lunch on Friday and Saturday.
Donations can be dropped off at the hall on Friday 29 March from 1 to 6pm.
People wishing to volunteer should call 3824 9239.
People with items to donate who wished to have them picked up should call by Wednesday, March 27.
